Novi is eight miles northwest of Detroit and also not far from Ann Arbor. Originally part of Farmington Township before its organization as a municipality in 1832, Novi now features a booming population and a lively downtown.

The Novi engine was used in race cars at the Indianapolis 500 between 1941 and 1966, and a water tower in the city still sports a mural of a racing car, proudly boasting "Birthplace, Novi Special".
